Ephesians 4:20-24
But that is not the way you learned Christ! - assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old sef, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires and to be renewed in the Spirit of your minds, and to put the new self, created after the likeliness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
In the previous verses, Paul wrote about the things that Gentiles do - darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, calous and given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. Paul reminded the Ephesians church that they must no longer walk as the Gentiles do.
We, as Christians, are also instructed not to longer walk as the Gentiles do. As we have experienced truth in Christ and learned Christ, we should:
Put off our old self
Be renewed in the spirit of our mind
Put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness
How do you live your life?
What is God's promise to you about the life He has for you?
How can you experience and learn Christ more?
How do you think the Holy Spirit can help you in renewing your mind?
Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross and your resurrection. Through you, I have received eternal life. I re-dedicate myself to you, humbling myself and acknowledging my need of a Savior, and that is you. As I am in you, I am a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come.
Holy Spirit, guide me in all truth. Help me to say no to the desires of the flesh, and not to live my life that is not pleasing to God.
Amen.
