Ideation

Gallup Definition:

People exceptionally talented in the Ideation theme are fascinated by ideas. They are able to find connections between seemingly disparate phenomena.

"I am unaffected by the ambiguity and risk of innovation."

"I will think outside the box."

"I bring new and fresh perspectives."

"I need freedom to explore possibilities without restraints or limits."

"I love coming up with something brand new."

"I hate doing what we have always done."

"I might have the tendency to be impractical."

Watch out fo the Gallup's post on how to develop your Ideation talent.

Action Items:

If you have Ideation as your dominant talent, you may consider these action items:

  • Seek work where you will be paid for your ideas such as marketing, advertising, journalism, design or new product development.

  • Yours is the kind of mind that bores quickly, so make small changes in your work or home life.

  • Seek brainstorming sessions.

  • Schedule a time to read, because others' ideas and experiences can become your raw material for new ideas. Schedule a time to think because thinking energizes you.

  • Think through your ideas before communicating them.

  • Partner with someone with a strong Activator theme. This person can push you to put your ideas into practice.

  • Partner with someone with a strong Analytical theme. This person will question you and challenge you, therefore strengthening your ideas.

  • Choose a mentor who has the courage to support you in your ideas and who will also challenge you to explore them even further.

Note that these action items only serve as guide.
