Focus

Gallup Definition:

People exceptionally talented in the Focus theme can take a direction, follow through, and make the corrections necessary to stay on track. They prioritize, then act.

"I am intensely and intentionally single-minded."

"I will persevere until the goal is reached."

"I bring clarity through concentration and direction."

"I need a goal to establish priorities."

"I love to begin with the end in mind."

"I hate going off on misdirected tangents."

"I might have the tendency to limit my enjoyment of the journey because of my destination mentality."

Action Items:

If you have Focus as your dominant talent, you may consider these action items:

  • When you set goals, discipline yourself to attach timelines and measurements. These can provide regular proof of your progress.

  • Take time to write down your goals and refer to them often.

  • Seek roles in which you are asked to function independently. You will be able to stay on track with little supervision.

  • Identify your role models. Write down in detail why you want to focus your career toward similar kinds of achievements.

  • Allow others to think, act and talk less efficiently than you do.

  • Stretch your goal-setting beyond work. These goals will give weight to your personal priorities and thereby help restore balance in your life.

Note that these action items only serve as guide.
